Applied Materials has a long history of partnering with and supporting a wide range of education improvement programs, but after becoming aware that certain student populations in the Silicon Valley, notably low-income students, were simply not achieving at high levels, Applied Materials became dedicated to making a more significant impact.

Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a national partnership program that brings together local schools, higher education institutions and the private sector to promote pre-engineering education in middle and high school. PLTW provides pre-engineering courses for students in participating schools in hopes of yielding a bigger, better-trained and technology-savvy employee pipeline.
The Alliance for Education is a partnership organization in San Bernardino County, California, encompassing over 1,200 business, labor, government, community/faith-based organizations and education representatives, all of whom share the goal of producing an educated and skilled future workforce for the region.
