Business and Education Partnerships in North Carolina
- North Carolina Business Committee for Education
A nonpartisan, nonprofit consortium of businesses from across the state, NCBCE funds initiatives and advocates for education reform to other business stakeholders. It is partnered with Gov. Easley's Center for 21st Century Skills, a private-public partnership that creates new curricula, assessments and improved alignment among instruction and workplace expectations. It has sponsored a statewide effort to develop an "adopt-a-school" program for local businesses to engage with their neighborhood schools.
- North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry
Recognized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers as their respective state affiliates, NCCBI is the main business group for the state of North Carolina. The Education Committee supports and lobbies on behalf of public school reform, particularly by means of public-private collaboration. Particular issues of interest are data and accountability measures and "staying the course" on assessments and standards-based reform.
- The Public School Forum of North Carolina
The Public School Forum of North Carolina, a nonprofit policy think tank, has been a partnership of business leaders, education leaders, and government leaders since 1986. It manages the Teaching Fellows program, offering scholarships to North Carolina high school seniors, the Education Policy Fellowship Program, and the Institute for Educational Policymakers, in collaboration with the Burroughs Welcome Fund and BellSouth Foundation. This program is geared towards helping policymakers and members of the media understand the complexities of education policy. It also hosts the Education: Everybody's Business Coalition, created by CEOs across North Carolina, to engage a wider audience on education reform.
