Business and Education Partnerships in Indiana

  • Indiana Chamber of Commerce
Founded in 1922, the Indiana Chamber represents over 26,000 members in its advocacy for policies that promote a better economic climate in Indiana. In 2003, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Foundation, with guidance from a number of state education and business groups, developed the Employer-Driven Workforce Literacy Project, a program aiming to upgrade the literacy levels of the future workforce through the development of employer-driven programs. The Indiana Chamber also releases, in collaboration with State Farm Insurance, "Indiana's Best Buys," an annual assessment of the state's high schools.

  • Indiana Education Roundtable
Appointed and co-chaired by the Governor and Superintendent of Public Instruction and founded in 1998, the Indiana Education Roundtable is a group of diverse stakeholders including key leaders from K-12 and higher education, business, industry and labor, parents and community, and the Indiana General Assembly. The Roundtable has been instrumental in advocating on behalf of the alignment of policies and practices between Pre-K, K-12 and higher education and, in 2003, launched the P-16 Plan for Student Achievement to facilitate the alignment of efforts across systems. One major achievement of the Roundtable was the adoption of its recommendation that the Core 40 college-prep curriculum become the default graduation requirement for all high school students and a prerequisite for admission to the state’s four year universities, ensuring all students graduate from high school prepared and eligible for college.
