Business and Education Partnerships in Florida

  • The Coalition for Improving Mathematics and Science Literacy in Florida (CIMS)
The Florida affiliate of the National Association of State Science and Mathematics Coalitions (NASSMC), CIMS is a group of business leaders, K-12 and higher education leaders who received an NSF grant in 2005 to conduct a statewide Summit. The Summit highlighted the importance of science and math education in workforce development, particularly in maintaining Florida's space and aeronautics industry, and was steered by a committee composed predominantly of members of the Florida business community.

  • Florida Council of 100
The Council is a private, nonprofit, and nonpartisan organization, composed entirely of corporate executives, formed in 1961 at the request of Governor Farris Bryant to provide advice to him on key Florida issues from a business perspective. It is now the state affiliate for the Business Roundtable. Education has always been a priority of the organization and the Council has helped develop programs to close the achievement gap and has drafted reports to connect education quality with Florida's economic future, including the Florida Partnership for School Success program.

  • Florida Council for Educational Change
The Council for Educational Change, a statewide nonprofit tasked with improving achievement through strengthened leadership, was founded in 2002 as the successor organization of the South Florida Annenberg Challenge and, with the full support of the Council of 100, assumed the day-to-day management of the Florida Partnership for School Success program.
